Who is this for? Developmental Edit
Complete Story Edit
Two passes of a manuscript with a detailed editorial letter and margin comments focusing on overall narrative and craft.
$.025-.035 per word
What it is: The service: •I will review your manuscript for overall narrative and craft. Possible issues may include plot/structure, pacing, worldbuilding, character development, consistency, believability, and any other overarching concern you may have for your story. •I will write an editorial letter outlining the main areas of concern, opportunities for improvement, biggest triumphs of your manuscript, and tips for achievable next steps. •I will create a chapter summaries document, for the simplification of communication between us, to ease any possible structural shifts in the manuscript, and as a reflection of your story. This document will also include a list of characters and locations to make sure that the information in your manuscript matches your own worldbuilding bible. •Mystery Tracking, when applicable, an example of a reader’s experience and impressions, guessing at possible twists, reveals, and whodunnits. This service gives insight into any possible disconnects between your clues and the timing of your reveals. •Margin notes to track any possible issues with consistency/continuity, confusions, and other chapter-level issues. Also, these notes will include flagging lines that are so fantastic that I laughed out loud, cried, or stopped to read it twice. These highlights will serve to preserve the best moments through any ensuing rounds of editing. •I will be happy to answer up to 10 follow up questions in an email or call of up to 30 minutes to help clarify anything from the letter or brainstorm revision ideas.
Includes: What you get: •An intake call or written exchange (whichever is more comfortable for you) to discuss specific goals, ideas, and concerns you may have for this project and our collaboration. •An editorial letter that addresses the concerns, opportunities, and successes of your manuscript. •A chapter summaries document with character and locations list for ease of organization and communication. •Mystery Tracking for insight into a reader’s experience. Hopefully highlighting where your expectations in writing meet, or miss, the reality of the reader. •Answers to up to 10 follow-up questions, either in an email or scheduled call of up to 30 minutes within 4 weeks of the letter’s delivery.
Who is this for? Authors who ... •... have an early, but solid draft and are ready to produce a final draft before getting into the nitty-gritty of grammar checks. •... are uncertain about big-picture aspects of their craft: plot/structure, character arcs, complex worldbuilding, pacing, and believability of characters and story. •... hope to wow readers with dramatic reveals, high stakes, and clear narrative tension. •... are looking to understand how their story meets and defies genre conventions and reader expectations.

Line Edit
Detailed Look at the Prose
Line-by-line deep dive of a manuscript using "track changes" and margin notes for concerns, suggestions, and successes of the prose.
$.021-.027 per word
What it is: The service: •I will take a detailed deep-dive into your manuscript, going over the prose line-by-line. Through margin notes, I’ll flag for repetition, flow, clarity, pacing, continuity, and anything else that would cause reader to disconnect from the story and characters. •With each comment, I will try to suggest possible solutions, tailored to your particular goals and concerns. •I will include comments to celebrate the fantastic lines and moments that I would hate to lose during an edit, as well as opportunities to further push the prose closer to your goals. •I will include a brief chapter summary document with a list of characters and locations to make sure we are on the same page (pun fully intended).
Includes: What you get: •An intake call or written exchange (whichever is more comfortable for you) to discuss specific goals, ideas, and concerns you may have for this project and our collaboration. •Line edits in margin notes with suggestions, celebrations, and opportunities. •A chapter summaries document with character and locations list for ease of organization and communication. •A brief summary of the editing process and opportunity to ask up to 3 follow up questions in an email or call of up to 15 minutes to help clarify anything from the process.
Who is this for? Authors who ... •... are in the middle to later stages of editing. They've written several drafts, gone through some form of developmental editing, and have fully shaped the story. This step will take prose to a level that's confidently ready for the final stages before publishing. •... feel that their story is ready to move from focusing on the proverbial forest to the trees. It’s time for the details of the language to shine and make the story come to life in a clear, consistent way.
Copyedit
Late-Stage Pass
A late-stage detailed pass that focuses on grammar, mechanics, and style rules done via "track changes."
$.018-.022 per word
What it is: The service: •I will go through your manuscript with a fine-tooth comb, using track changes. This pass will focus on grammar, mechanics, and style rules to follow the Chicago Manual of Style as well as any areas of concern you may have. •In addition to the track changes feature, I am willing to add margin notes for any specific style items you want flagged. •If requested, I would be happy to leave the text untouched and suggest all changes via margin notes.
Includes: What you get: •An intake call or written exchange (whichever is more comfortable for you) to discuss specific goals, ideas, and concerns you may have for this project and our collaboration. •Copyedits through the “track changes” feature (or via margin notes by request). •A brief summary of the edits. •Optional add-on for blurb/marketing material edits.
Who is this for? Authors who ... •... are in the final stages—congratulations! You’re so close! You’ve written many drafts, gone through some form of big- and small-picture editing, and finished your story. After this, you can feel confident moving toward formatting and publishing.
